Benefits of Lemons and Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

February 28, 2019

So, I have been into fitness for several years, but lets face it, my diet did not reflect that of a fitness professional, so after the birth of my daughter, I recommitted my nutrition to reflect that of a fitness professional. Plant based, avoiding the processed foods, more portion control, and just being mindful of what I was putting into my body. Maybe you aren’t a fitness professional, but you just want some tips on how to eat better and things to incorporate into your daily routine.

Let’s Talk Balance

If you are not one who has been following a healthy eating regime, I suggest you don’t go into it thinking you will cut everything out cold turkey. Often, this becomes very overwhelming quite quickly and often leads to failure, disappointment. Instead, make a list of a couple of things you can change right away. Drink more water, cut out soda, eat 5 servings of veggies per day, etc. Read here for more tips on working towards a healthy balance when it comes to food.

An few easy things I started incorporating was drinking lemon water daily, and drinking apple cider vinegar.

Why Lemons?

Lemons are very high in Vitamin C, fiber, and various beneficial plant compounds. In fact, here are some of the health benefits of lemons:

  1. Lemons support heart health. One lemon provides about 31 mg of vitamin C, which is 51% of the reference daily intake (RDI), and research shows that eating fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke. In addition, it can help lower cholesterol when consumed in daily diet.
  2. Can improve skin quality. Vitamin C found in lemons may help reduce skin wrinkling, dry skin from aging, and damage from the sun.
  3. It aids digestion. Some drink water and lemon first thing in the morning because it aids digestion + gets things flowing.
  4. Immunity support. The high levels of vitamin c in lemons can help immunity deficiencies.
  5. Lemon water can help flush the body of toxins.
  6. Can be beneficial for the joints as vitamin c is good for the joints.
  7. Lemons contain pectin fiber which is very beneficial for colon health and also serves as a powerful antibacterial
  8. It balances to maintain the pH levels in the body
  9.  It helps prevent the growth and multiplication of pathogenic bacteria that cause infections and diseases
  10.  It helps reducing pain and inflammation in joints and knees as it dissolves uric acid

Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider vinegar has been known to potentially help with all of the following:

  1. Drinking unfiltered apple cider vinegar can help lower blood sugar levels. By its very nature, ACV can regulate healthy blood sugar levels in the body, which is great for those with Type Two diabetes. Read more: https://barrierislandorganics.com/ten-acv-benefits/#ixzz5hG5ISBSw
  2. Can increase good cholesterol, which in turn, helps maintain a healthy heart
  3. Helps detoxify liver and increase overall bodily functions
  4. Apple cider vinegar can inhibit the growth of cancer cells and lower the odds with its anti-cancer properties. While keeping other cancers at bay, apple cider vinegar assists in shrinking tumors
  5. Can help you lose weight
  6. Help reduce bloating
  7. Lower blood pressure

How to Drink ACV?

Apple Cider Vinegar can be taken orally. I buy Bragg’s acv, and mix 2-4 tablespoons with warm water, and fresh lemon juice. This way, I am getting both my lemon juice, and acv in at the same time + it helps with the taste. Now don’t drink this and expect it to be delicious, ACV is definitely an acquired taste, but has SO many benefits for you! Typically, I drink this in the morning on an empty stomach, or in the afternoon to help fight cravings or as an afternoon pick me up.

If you can’t handle the taste, they also make acv capsules you can take daily!
